Athlone Town finish with a flourish to retain Women’s President’s Cup in Lissywollen

Three goals in the concluding stages of the contest ensured Athlone Town retained the Womens President’s Cup in Lissywollen on Saturday evening, their defeat of Peamount United a boost prior to the start of the club’s Premier Division campaign this weekend.

A dominant second half display saw the reigning FAI champions deservedly defeat the current league champions, a brace of goals from Chloe Singleton, complemented by a Casey Howe strike ensuring team captain Laurie Ryan once again raised aloft the prized silverware much to the delight of the home support.

Thoughts now immediately turn to the start of Athlone’s Premier Division campaign, the focus of management and players this week on Galway United who will provide the opening fixture opposition in Lissywollen on Saturday night, kick off 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, former Athlone Town manager, Tommy Hewitt, takes charge of his first competitive contest as Sligo Rovers manager on Saturday afternoon when his charges journey to the capital to play Shelbourne.
