With clement weather prevailing, avid runners graced the camber on Sunday morning as the inaugural Athlone Croi na hÉireann Festival took place.
Incorporating a route within the Coosan neighbourhood, participants departed the race start at The Bounty, circling in a 6km direction before crossing the finish line at their place of origin.
Speaking post race, the Athlone Croi na hÉireann committee express ed their gratitude to those who enabled the realisation of the fundraising initiative.
“We, as a committee, would like to thank Pascal Dillon and Tom Silke for the use of their excellent facilities at the Bounty, Martina Connell of Athlone Athletics Club for her guidance, HB Safety Services for the event sponsorship, the local Gardai and the large number of voluntary safety stewards who ensured the safe and smooth running of this event.
“Finally, much thanks is afforded to the many runners who took part in the road race,” the committee stated.
Kate Kelly crossed the finish line in first position to claim the women’s category win, while Joshua Schnell triumphed in the men’s category.
