Fallon confirms he will contest June election as Independent candidate

Cllr Laurence Fallon has confirmed that he will contest June’s local elections as an Independent candidate in the Athlone Electoral Area (Roscommon ).

“I have been an Independent Councillor since 2011 when I made the decision to stand with the people of Roscommon over the downgrading of Roscommon Hospital and to resign from Fine Gael.

“Since then, I have continued to represent the area as an Independent Councillor and I will be contesting this year’s council elections as an Independent candidate once again,” Cllr Fallon said.

Cllr Fallon resigned from Fine Gael in 2011 following the decision to close the A&E at Roscommon Hospital despite a commitment to keep the unit open.

“I am proud to represent the Athlone Electoral Area as an Independent Councillor and I have a proven track record of standing by the people of Roscommon and fighting for health services locally. If re-elected to Roscommon County Council I will continue to represent, and work for, the community as an Independent councillor.

“I also remain committed to working to find a solution to the Lough Funshinagh situation. This is a campaign that I have been spearheading for the last five years and I intend to continue to work to find a solution,” Cllr Fallon stated.
