Tickets for the annual GAA national draw promoted by Croke Park are on sale through the club, all prizes being sponsored by Croke Park.
All money raised goes directly to Southern Gaels camogie and hurling. Tickets cost €10 and are available from all committee members.
Membership
With the new year upon us it is now time to pay membership for the coming year, all rates published on the club’s social media sites.
Marist College
Congratulations to the Marist College Under 16 hurling team who captured the North Leinster D1 Hurling title with a well deserved victory over St Mel’s of Longford last week. The won on a scoreline of 4-15 to 4-6. Captain Donal Dawson was most impressive throughout accounting for 1-11 of the score including five pointed frees. He was ably supported by Aaron Hardiman, Dara Geary, William Geraghty and Oisin O’Donoghue. Southern Gaels had ten players on the panel. Congratulations to Conor Flanagan, Ronan Farrell and Ciara Corcoran who promote hurling in the school.
Club Shop
The club have secured a premises for a club shop in Blyry Industrial estate. Currently it is being stocked with gear and opening times will be advertised later.
Promotional Stand
The club will have a promotional stand in Athlone Towncentre on a Saturday during the month of February. The details will be on all club social media sites. Make sure to drop in and visit the stand.
County Teams
There are currently many of our players are involved with various county hurling squads. Cian McCarthy is on the Westmeath senior panel, whiel Cian Geary and Johnny Martin have been selected for the county’s Under 20 hurling panel.
Aaron Hardiman, Oisin O’Donoghue and Alex O’Donovan are training with the Under 16 side, while Dara Geary is a member of the Under 15 side and Daniel Crosbie with the Under 14 team.
Additionally, club members who also play football are involved with county football squads, Kyle Mahon (Under 18 ), Peter Bourke and Anthony Carroll King (Under 16 ) and Padraig O’Neill (Under 15 ).
Bower Camogie
Hard luck to the Bower Junior camogie team who were defeated by Kilcock in their opening group game recently. It is great to see so many playing and enjoying the game in the school. Many thanks to Dermot Fitzgerald for his work in training the teams.
Return To Training
Juvenile teams will return to training on Tuesday, February 27, at the Regional Sports Centre astro turf pitches. There will be hurling and camogie training for Under 12, 13, 14, 16 and 18 codes, slots available between 6pm and 8pm. More details will be available later.
League matches for hurling will start the week of Monday March 25. Adult hurlers will return shortly and begin their year with a challenge away to Roscommon Gaels Saturday February 24.
The league begins on the weekend of March 16, Southern Gaels competing in Division Two with seven games to be played. There will be adult teams fielded in the championship at both Intermediate and Junior B levels.
