As the cost of living crisis continues to impact, the local business community was enveloped in sadness this week with the news that the Corner House Bistro is to close.
Following 12 years of trade from its Dublingate Street location, the restaurant, opened in October 2012 by Joe and Linda Connolly will close on Saturday, January 13.
In a post on the Corner House Bistro Facebook page, the proprietors stated that they were announcing the closure of the business with “deep sadness”, noting the decision taken to be “a very sad day in our lives and in the lives of our staff”.
“These last 12 months have been the most difficult for us with constant rising costs across all areas of the business. The increased VAT rate along with all of the other costs including labour, food and energy have made our business no longer viable.
“It is with heavy hearts that we must say goodbye to all of our 20 staff and our hundreds of valued and loyal customers.
“We thank you for all of the memories and laughs down through the 12 years that we have traded in Dublingate St. and hopefully we will see brighter days ahead but today is a very sad day in our lives and in the lives of our staff, many many thanks,” the Facebook post, signed by the proprietors, stated.
The post also invited those with vouchers to call into the Corner House Bistro prior to Saturday where a refund will be provided.
