Funding of €100,000 for outdoor projects in Westmeath will deliver stronger safer communities, local Minister of State, Deputy Peter Burke, has stated.
Minister Burke was speaking as funding was announced under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS ), which is used to enhance outdoor amenities such as our walkways, cycleways, rivers and lakes.
“I’m delighted that my colleague, Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys, has announced this recent funding. Two projects featured for Westmeath are the Greenway link from Castletown Geoghegan to the Old Rail Trail, awarded €50,000 for design and planning, while the design of a gateway linear park in Moate has also been awarded €50,000.
“This will be a major boost to the local economy here by attracting visitors and furthering our reputation as a destination for adventure tourism. We continue to build in our infrastructure and invest in our communities.
“Government’s Rural Development policy, ‘Our Rural Future’, has enabled record investment in our outdoor amenities at a level never before seen in Ireland.
“It’s also part of Fine Gael’s commitment to ensuring stronger, safer communities and making our rural towns and villages places that people can work, live and raise a family,” Minister Burke concluded.
