Charities and community organisations based in the Midlands are invited to attend a special conference which will aim to equip them with the latest thinking and advice on how to survive the recession.
The conference, which will be facilitated by The Wheel, the national support and representative body for charities, will take place at the Tullamore Court Hotel on Tuesday June 23 and is open to anyone involved in community and voluntary activity.
“Charities are facing very challenging times; a growing number of people are turning to charities for help, but many organisations have lost funding grants and are now struggling to survive,” said Deirdre Garvey, CEO of The Wheel.
A recent survey, conducted by The Wheel, found that in the past six months alone, 62 per cent of charities have had to cut back on their services.
Most charities do not have a lot of financial reserves, and reductions in income will most likely impact directly on the growing number of vulnerable people these organisations serve. “It is therefore essential that charities operate as efficiently as possible - this conference will help them to achieve just that,” said Ms Garvey.
The conference will also cover a range of other pertinent topics, including fundraising, effective governance, and online social media tools for charities. A panel of six experts will be on hand to answer questions.
Registration opens at 9.15am and the conference will conclude at 4.30pm. Organisations and individuals are invited to register online at www.wheel.ie, or contact Eva de la Haza on (01 ) 454 8727 or at [email protected].
