Sinn Féin local election candidate, Conor Dowling-Linehan, is calling on Bus Éireann to reconsider it’s proposed stop changes for school runs.
Dowling-Linehan, who will feature on the ballot paper in 2024, has stated that the proposed changes will give cause for student safety concerns.
“I am calling on Bus Éireann to review and reconsider the proposed stop changes for their school bus runs. These changes would see the stops moved from Retreat Road to the Lissywollen Stadium which is a considerable distance.
“These bus stops currently serve the Marist College, Our Lady’s Bower and Community College schools and is the route with the highest number of school students.
“Parents and school staff have voiced their fears that this could lead to a safety risk among students with many young people congregating and walking on a busy road after school. For some that live remotely, this will add an extra part of an already long journey.
“For most parents, leaving work early to pick up their child is simply not an option so the last thing they want is to be worried about their child.
“It is my hope that, if there needs to be a change, that a more suitable change is put in place that works for students and parents as well and I would call on the council to liaise with Bus Éireann in identifying suitable new stops,” Dowling-Linehan stated.
