A well attended ninth Midlands Craft Beer Festival took place in Don’s Bar, Moate. recently.

Local breweries, Athlone’s Dead Centre and Ballymahon’s Wide Street, were joined by a host of additional like minded businesses from around Ireland, Brehon Brewhouse from Monaghan making their inaugural trip to Moate. Outer Place, a Kildare brewery that specialises in IPAs were also new to the Midlands.

Dot and Third Barrel from Dublin returned to Moate for the second time, Tom from Land and Labour making his first in person appearance at the festival. Regular attendees Rye River and Galway Bay also returned for their favourite event.

There was live music from See Saw Swing and Blind Dog and DJ Keith Marshall kicked off the afternoon with some chilled tunes. Ginger’s Barbeque kept the crowd well fed with their amazing food. Dead Centre’s sister business the Irish Soda Company debuted their rock shandy product at the event and that proved very popular with those who were not drinking beer.

Attendees came from Dublin, Galway, Northern Ireland and there was even a special bus who made the short journey from Athlone. A good time was had by all.

Next year will be the 10th hosting of the event, the festival due to take place on the last Saturday of August once again. It is hoped some of the breweries who previously participated, namely Reel Deel, Trouble Brewing and Whiplash will return.
