Renowned Ballinasloe-based artist Bernice Cooke will captivate art enthusiasts and history aficionados alike with her latest exhibition, Stone Tape II The Westmeath Tale.
The exhibition which officially launches this evening (Thursday, September 7 ) in the Athlone Civic Offices at 5.30pm, delves into the intricate beauty of historical buildings, Bernice’s artwork breathing life into structures that have borne witness to the rich tapestry of County Westmeath’s past.
Bernice, driven by the philosophy that we are caretakers of our homes but cannot carry them into the afterlife, crafts her exhibition around this ethos. Through her masterful use of pen and watercolour, she intricately captures the essence and splendour of these architectural treasures.
For months, Bernice immersed herself in research, unearthing stories and histories associated with each of the twenty-four meticulously chosen buildings featured in the exhibition. She carefully unravelled the past, revealing the grandeur of these structures that grace County Westmeath’s landscape.
From iconic landmarks like Athlone Castle and Sean’s Bar to the revered Fore Abbey, Bernice’s artistic prowess offers viewers a journey through time and architecture. Following the success of her debut solo exhibition, Stone Tape, held at Portumna Castle last year, Bernice’s artistic evolution continues to captivate.
Stone Tape II The Westmeath Tale is set to run from September 4 to September 29, allowing visitors ample time to immerse themselves in the historical narratives brought to life by Bernice’s creations.
