Portlick Scout Campsite recently hosted two days of activities for those displaced children from war torn countries currently residing in County Westmeath.
The campsite management board provided their facilities and activities free of charge as a gesture of welcome to the displaced children living in our communities.
It was an opportunity for these children to enjoy the unique range of activities provided at the Portlick Scout campsite and to have fun in the beautiful surroundings of Lough Ree and Portlick Bay.
There were both land based and water activities available including kayaking, water slide, tag archery, crate stacking, zipline, gladiator challenge, obstacle course, climbing wall and field sports.
Approximately 150 children took part in the activities over the course of the two days with both Athlone-Moate Municipal District Mayor, Cllr Louise Heavin anf Cathaoirleach, Westmeath County Council, Cllr Liam McDaniels also in attendance.
Westmeath Community Development and New Horizons supported the event by co-ordinating the groups and providing transport to and from Portlick Scout campsite.
