The new EQS SUV by Mercedes-EQ, a model said by Mercedes-Benz to represent a “redefinition” of SUV luxury, has arrived in Ireland.

Taking its place alongside the recently introduced EQS saloon, the EQS SUV tops a growing line of all-electric models produced by the car maker’s EQ range.

The following model variants are available. The EQS 450+, EQS 450 4Matic, EQS 500 4Matic and EQS 580 4MATIC. 4MATIC provides an all-wheel-drive version (with motors on front and rear axles ). Prices are from €139,880 (EQS 450+ ), €144,145 (EQS 450 4Matic ), €155,280 (EQS 500 4Matic ) and €168,265 (EQS 580 4Matic ).

Featured on all-wheel drive versions is an off-road drive mode that raises the suspension and alters the powertrain’s behaviour. Adjustable air suspension and a rear-axle steering system are standard.

Powered by Mercedes-Benz’s own-manufactured batteries – offering ‘better charging’ performance and ‘significantly higher’ energy density – the EQS SUV has a claimed operating range of up to 639 kms (WLTP ) depending on equipment and configuration, and a power output of up to 400 kW (a performance helped by lightweight components and a Cd value from 0.20 ).

Available fast-charging systems include one that delivers an extra 250kms (WLTP ) power in just 15 minutes.

The EQS SUV comes equipped with all of the advanced features and characteristics found in the recently introduced EQS and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Optional in its case is the additional availability of a third row of seating that increases its passenger carrying capacity to seven persons.

The newcomer echoes the EQS in its features and appointments – all housed within a design that marks the subtle blending of muscular power and timeless elegance.

Inside, its generous headroom gives the EQS SUV a spacious, airier feel that befits its SUV identity. Fixtures, seating, and interior fit-and-finish are of an expected high standard.

Tech elements, trim and passenger comfort features are compatible with those of its siblings, both in terms of luxury and functionality.

In keeping with other models in its class, a visually dominant interior feature is its dash-mounted infotainment MBUX Hyperscreen, face of what has become a vastly advanced driver assistance system now equipped with artificial intelligence and a ‘learning’ capability.

A large stowage compartment below the centre console and a predominance of other useful storage spaces add to the EQS SUV’s practicality.

“With levels of design, technology, equipment and luxury that are ‘guaranteed to be the hallmark of future Mercedes-Benz production’, the EQS SUV is ideal for those high-end customers whose requirement is for a vehicle that meets demand for emissions-free motoring within a top-end design that combines deluxe driving with surprising agility, deep-down power and off-road performance," describing it as a “welcome addition to our model line-up”, Ciaran Allen, sales manager for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars in Ireland, commented.

In addition to its numerous infotainment features and options, the EQS SUV comes with a mix of goodies that includes wireless device connectivity; standard and optional driver-assistance tech; lane-keeping assist; blind-spot monitoring; collision prevention systems; and warnings and automated interventions that protect against unintended hazards.

Of particular note is an acoustic presence indicator that can emit a special sound as a warning for pedestrians; and a multi-stage high-voltage safety feature to protect against electric shocks and high-energy short circuits.

In addition, innovative battery management software allows updates to be transmitted over the air to keep the EQS SUV energy management up-to-date.
