The Reel Thing: Music from These Parts series continues at Roscommon Arts Centre on June 15 with a performance by Leonard Barry, Declan Folan and Shane McGowan who have played together over the last three decades.
Declan Folan (fiddle ) and Shane McGowan (guitarist ) from South Sligo an area famed for traditional music while Leonard Barry (uilleann pipes ) was born in North Kerry and very much influenced in the music of the wider area including Sliabh Luachra and the music of West Limerick.
The trio have shared the stage and recorded with many of music greats including Zakeer Hussain, Lunasa, Dervish, Sean Keane, Luka Bloom, and Lisa O’Neill among many others and have performed throughout the world at many festivals and concert halls.
In 2019 they released Hurry the Jug to critical acclaim, an album that traces the various influences that have shaped their music over the course of many years. Tickets for this feast of traditional music are €15.
John will also be hosting Pull Up a Chair and Play, a series of “slow sessions” for musicians starting off or picking back up an instrument, for players of any instrument and at any level on the same evening.
This will take place at 6.15pm on June 15 and if you are interested in attending, this can also be booked through box office. Participants of this session can avail of a reduced ticket price of €10 for The Reel Thing: Music from These Parts event.
