The annual ‘Go Purple Day’ returns tomorrow (Friday ) in aid of all victims of domestic violence and to highlight the supports available to them in time of need.

What originally began as a local event organised by Garda Stacey Looby of Athlone Garda Station, the ‘Go Purple Day’ has grown into a national day of awareness focusing on the support of all victims of domestic violence.

Tomorrow, Friday April 29, the people of Athlone are being asked to wear, bake or sew something purple and to be generally creative with the colour purple in an effort to show solidarity.

Ahead of the day, Garda Looby was welcomed to the Buccaneers R.F.C where she expressed her gratitude for the club’s assistance in promoting the ‘Go Purple Day’.

Speaking about the support, Garda Looby said, “Since these photos have gone on social media, they have helped create a massive awareness for this year’s ‘GO PURPLE DAY’ and I sincerely thank the Buccaneers club for that.”
