Athlone Regional Sports Centre the venue for Sunday’s GOAL fundraising colour run

Athlone Regional Sports Centre is the venue on Sunday afternoon for a 5km colour run, the proceeds from which will go towards GOAL’s work with communities in Turkey and Syria following the recent earthquake.

The Festival Of Colour is a 5km, untimed event where anyone can take part by either running or walking. There will be stations at different points throughout the course where participants will be doused from head to toe in various coloured powders.

For maximum colour impact the organisers suggest wearing white clothes. Wearing sunglasses is strongly recommended to prevent participants from getting powder in their eyes. Once the race is complete, the fun will continue post finish line with music sounds and treats.

GOAL teams are working on the ground in Turkey and Syria with local communities to provide shelter, blankets, heating, food and clean water to families who have lost their homes. GOAL was chosen as the charity for the fundraiser as 28 of their workers lost their lives during the recent earthquake.

The colour run has taken inspiration from the Indian spring festival, Holi, which is widely known as the Festival of Colours, as it involves the throwing of gulal (coloured powder ) and water.

The colour fun run takes place in Athlone Regional Sports Centre on Sunday, April 16, at 2pm and is suitable for all ages with special pricing for families.

Family tickets are priced at €20, adult tickets are €10, while students can participate for just €5. To register for the colour run visit eventcreate.com/festivalofcolourathlone
