Four creative designs from local secondary school students have been chosen to compete at the Dublin City final of Junk Kouture to take place in May.
Those with the honour of selection are Our Lady’s Bower students, Ellie Denby and Evie Walton with their project ‘Rein On Me’, Eimear Dolan, Zoe Clinto and Dio Doria from Athlone Community College and their creation ‘She’s All Matt’, while students, Eva Donlon, Evie Nugent and Méabh O’Shea, with their project #TAGME and Sean Murray and Cliodhna Buckley and their creation ‘Lighting The Way’, will proudly represented Moate Community School at this prestigious fashion event.
The recently hosted regional finals saw the next generation of Irish up-and-coming eco-conscious creators, innovators, and fashion designers contest for a prestigious place at the Junk Kouture finals in May.
In total, 1,200 haute-couture designs made from 100% recycled materials by post-primary students entered the 13th year of the creative programme in Ireland. From this, 300 designs were shortlisted and aired on Junk Kouture’s YouTube and TikTok channel for the 2023 regional finals.
During the showcase, 80 was the magic number, as 80 creations crafted by young designers aged 13-18 years from across the midlands, north, south, east, south-east and west of Ireland were chosen to represent their region.
Taking to one of Ireland’s most prestigious stages, County Westmeath’s four finalists’ teams will face stiff competition from over 70 other entries from across the country in this year’s Dublin City Final. Moate Community School’s two designs will compete with Athlone Community College, as well as Our Lady’s Bower’s entry in a bid to secure a space at the inaugural World Final of Junk Kouture where Irish finalists will compete with their fellow creative peers from Paris, Milan, NYC, London and Abu Dhabi.
