The Coolevin Park Residents’ Association (CPRA ) were to the clean up fore on Good Friday as they united for a litter pick of their housing locality.
“With the litter pick packages delivered in March by Cllr Aengus O’Rourke, the CPRA residents commenced clean up proceedings on Good Friday morning and filled nine Westmeath County Council purple bags with waste collected in and around the immediate vicinity.
“Our thanks to Gerry Johnson, chairperson, Athlone Tidy Towns, who collected the filled bags for disposal by Barna Waste. CPRA Residents participated in Team Up Clean Up 2023 with Athlone Tidy Towns and Westmeath County Council working with the local communities
“CPRA Residents ongoing ‘Pick It/Bag It’ project promotes our natural environment to thrive. Bottles and cans are regularly brought to recycling areas andhese were the most prevalent items collected, all recyclable.
“The single most disposed item potentially affecting birds and the natural environment were ‘bulk quantities of cigarette ends’. As a result of this project, we are encouraging ‘bring two bins’ where public recycling or waste bins are not in immediate area.
“This was also a great opportunity to investigate our local surroundings with a magnified view,” CPRA chairperson, Jacqui Thaker commented.
