The good news is that the recently revealed new Volkswagen ‘ID 2all’ small electric concept car will have a claimed possible range of about 450 kilometres from a 56kWh battery.
It promises to be spacious and the giant German carmaker adds that it be value for money, but the bad news is that it will not go on sale here until 2025.
When the finalised model does get here, it will be rivalling the likes of the Peugeot e-208. The ID.2 will be offered in a choice of two batteries. the entry level version will have a shorter range - circa 355 kilometres from a 38kWh battery.
It will share a shorter version of the underpinning from the ID.3, but unlike the latter which is rear-wheel driven, the new ID.2 will be front-wheel driven.
More on this when an exact launch date, specifications and pricing are announced.
However, you can expect to see Skoda, Cupra/ Seat versions of the ID.2 coming along too. The Cupra UrbanRebel concept has already been tased about.
The ID 2 is the smallest Volkswagen ID model announced so far, but it has been confirmed that a smaller ID 1 and a small electric SUV will also be launched, as part of their plans to bring ten new electric models to the market by 2026.
