Thanks to all the mentors, parents, camogie and hurling players who marched with the club in the Athlone and Moate parades. There was a great contingent of club members at both. Southern Gaels won the ‘Best Sports Club’ award in the Moate parade and had a wonderful day. The weather was less favourable in Athlone on Sunday but the day was just as enjoyable.
Training
All teams are back training but with the inclement weather the pitches in Athlone GAA are closed. Other arrangements are being made regarding training venues so please contact your team mentors for details.
County Teams
Congratulations to the Westmeath minor hurlers on their first round League victory over Meath. Well done to selector Tony O’Keeffe and player Ruairí Ó Duibhir. Also, to Oisin O’Donoghue and Alex O’Donovan both of whom played with Westmeath U15s against Meath last weekend.
Adult Challenge
Southern Gaels 1-9 St Domnic’s 1-8
Southern Gaels travelled to Knockcroghery last Sunday as they continued their preparations for the start of their league campaign. Their first game versus Clonkill fell foul of the weather so this was an ideal game. Conditions were far from suitable for hurling but the Gaels had the better of proceedings throughout and came away with a narrow victory.
Fixtures
Sunday, March 26 - ACHL Div 2 Southern Gaels v Delvin, Pairc Chiaráin, Athlone 2pm.
Under 13 and 15 fixtures set for this week are weather dependent and mentors will keep players informed as to venues.
