A broad swathe of the town’s main public amenity, Burgess Park, will close to the public for a number of years, Westmeath County Council has confirmed.
Elected members in attendance at the recent local authority monthly meeting heard that a decision had been taken to lease over 9,000 square metres of council-owned land in Burgess Park to contractors Ward & Burke Construction Ltd, for use as a machine depot and temporary working area.
The exact time duration of the licensed agreement for the broad swathe of Burgess Park involved is unclear as the lease extends for the unspecified timescale of the works by Uisce Éireann.
This development is in addition to other lands within the immediate locality already which Uisce Éireann have secured by either compulsory purchase or license agreement.
