Athlone passengers are benefiting from significantly enhanced services and timetables on Routes 190 (Athlone to Drogheda ) and 466 (Athlone to Cavan ) operated by Bus Éireann on behalf of the National Transport Authority.
The enhanced routes now include 10 services a day to Drogheda and six daily services to Cavan, seven days a week. Route 190, Athlone to Drogheda now offers connections between TUS Athlone and Route 466, Athlone to Cavan offers improved options for connecting with Irish Rail services at Longford and Athlone.
“Bus Éireann was delighted to introduce these new and improved services from Athlone to Cavan and Drogheda last month, significantly increasing services for the people of Athlone. Thanks to the National Transport Authority, through the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan we have added 1.7 million kilometres to our network and are creating almost 50 new jobs.
“Demand for our services in the Midlands is higher now than pre-pandemic, these enhanced services between Athlone and Drogheda/Cavan will enable us to connect more people with who and what matters to them. The new services are proving particularly popular with students, providing them with a direct link between TUS Athlone and Drogheda.
“The new Bus Éireann route connecting TUS Athlone directly with Drogheda is of huge benefit to the students, enabling a large student population to commute between Athlone, Mullingar and Meath.” said Niall Naughton, President TUS Student Union, “The additional early morning and late services makes life so much easier for students that are commuting long distances,” Brian Connolly, Bus Éireann, Senior Operations Manager, West, said.
Bus Éireann Route 466 serves Athlone, Glasson, Ballymahon, Keenagh, Longford, Edgeworthstown, Granard, Ballinagh and Cavan.
Bus Éireann Route 190 serves Athlone, Moate, Mullingar, Killucan, Raharney, Ballivor, Trim, Navan, Slane and Drogheda. Updated service details and timetables are available at buseireann.ie
