A sporting occasion to savour, Athlone Athletics Club were to the running fore in recent times, the thriving club claiming the prestigious Phylis Delaney Cup as the leading ladies team, at the Tullamore Harriers half marathon.
The quartet of Theresa Hughes, Triona Kinane, Emer Gaffey and Lisa O'Rourke, all excelled in their respective race categories and their combined results saw Athlone AC achieve silverware success following the conclusion of the half marathon.
The inaugural occasion on which Athlone AC has claimed a major honour within a competitive running setting, it is hoped that such scenes can be replicated as the race season continues, many members in the throes of preparation for the Dublin City Marathon on Sunday, October 30.
