Athlone Photography Club will host a 2022/23 programme open invitation night at the Abbey Road Artists Studio on Abbey Road (in close proximity to the Radisson Blu Hotel Athlone ) to which photographers of all levels are invited.
After two years of turbulent pandemic times and bi-weekly zoom meetings, the club is delighted to reopen the physical doors for the 2022/2023 season with this open night. They have an exciting new programme of events planned for the year including talks and workshops with some of the world’s leading photographers in landscape, portrait, wildlife, composite, sport, street and press photography which will all be revealed on the night.
The club supports photographers with all levels of experience. Competitions are run throughout the year in Novice, Intermediate and Advanced levels with winners announced at the end of the year for the best in each category.
The club is affiliated with the Irish Photographic Federation (IPF ) and competes at national levels against other photography clubs and was the winner of the National Shield in 2015, a competition dedicated to novices and intermediate level. It also finished for the first time in the top 10 (eighth overall out of 26 clubs ) at the 2019 National Club Finals which is for more advanced and skilled photographers. Last year saw the club exhibiting member’s work as part of the RTÉ Drama Festival fringe to great reception.
