This weekend sees an influx of clubs to Athlone Golf Club when the Connacht Area finals of the men’s and women’s Junior Cup, Women’s Intermediate Cup and Men’s Pierce Purcell Shield takes place.
The club’s men’s Junior Cup Team take on Co Sligo in what should prove to be a very close contest. Athenry women’s Junior Cup team, who defeated Athlone in the previous round, should be favourites to beat Castlebar in their final, while Co Sligo are favourites to overcome Galway Bay. We wish all competing teams the best of luck.
Women’s Area Finals
The senior foursomes team and the Challenge Cup team played in their Connacht finals on Saturday last in glorious sunshine in Gort. The teams played amazing golf and were very narrowly beaten by Roscommon and Tubbercurry on the day. Both teams gave enormous commitment to the club by making themselves available all summer and great credit is due to managers and team members alike. There was huge support for the players with large numbers travelling from Athlone to Gort to cheer on both teams.
