Return of The Secret Garden at The Prince of Wales a timely hospitality addition this summer season in Athlone

Much to the delight of locals in Athlone, The Secret Garden at The Prince of Wales has reopened for the summer season.

Serving the finest creative cocktails and most delicious dining menu, The Secret Garden offers effortless outdoor elegance, in a fun and unique setting, located to the rear of the Prince of Wales Hotel.

Set in the heart of Athlone, it is a most desirable location for a drink or cocktail whilst the vast array of snacks, lunch options and dinners available offer a lovely prep before a night on the town.

Inspired by the sophisticated atmosphere of many big city garden bars, the pink wall flowers, high top tables, contemporary stools, grass effect flooring and cute incorporated table décor and outdoor bar’s features, ensures The Secret Garden really feels like your in a much more tropic environment overall.

The menu at The Secret Garden broadly incorporates Frank’s Hot ‘n Kick’n wings and loaded nachos all the way to its fabulous fried buttermilk chicken burger, inclusive of a beautiful butterflied breast of chicken marinated in buttermilk dredged in seasoned flour dipped in a honey and sriracha glaze in a brioche bun with thai slaw, lettuce, tomato and ranch mayo.

The Secret Garden’s famous Steak sandwich cannot go unmentioned, combining mouth-watering strips of sirloin steak, fried mushrooms and onions in a toasted ciabatta with rocket and garlic mayo, served with chips and pepper sauce.

A real highlight of the menu, is the pasta bar offering three exquisitely presented Italian dishes that are simply ‘Mamma Mia’, and all three dishes, the carbonara, arrabiata and the goats cheese, tomato and chive pasta, come served with the house-made crispy garlic ciabatta.

There is something for everyone on this extensive menu, from light bites and lunch to succulent and substantial meals that’s set you up for the day!

The Secret Garden boasts an abundance of drink choices to suit all with a variety of draught beers available on tap while those looking for their regulars have nothing to fear as the Secret Garden Bar is well-equipped with all your needs, including an extensive selection of premium wines, spirits and cocktails.

The cocktails on offer are simply outstanding, great value, great taste and much like the food offering, a great selection of the classics but prepared exceptionally well, making it very hard to choose just one! The Secret Garden cocktail menu has been designed with every guest and every sip in mind, hence the reliance on the old trusty reliable, but created with expertise and precision, making the timeless tipples faultlessly fabulous.

However, there is that one contemporary cocktail on the menu, which showcases the Secret Garden’s personality and originality - it is the Baileys Flat White Martini, a tasty hipster take on the espresso variant with a delicious sweetness and creamy texture and an elegant look and feel. Classic or contemporary, much like Mr Kipling, they are all exceptionally good!

All cocktails are only €8.50, yes, you read that right €8.50 a cocktail, and they are probably the most delicious cocktails you will drink in Athlone.
