A message from Patrick Towey, General Manager, RHS Home Care
In writing these words I am mindful of the many people who have died during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Also, those who have died as a consequence of Covid-19 and the many times families that were restricted from been allowed to grieve as someone would naturally, the pandemic disrupted this healing process for many.
Families couldn’t be as close to their loved ones, and feel the embrace of their wider community of friends and colleagues due to this disruption.
I just want to thank the often-overlooked support teams that keep the wheels turning behind the scenes as well as acknowledging the work and care of the healthcare workers on the frontline the past 28 months.
The past 28 months has seen all lives altered and the world as we knew it changed overnight. Lock-downs, social isolation, job losses and home schooling were just a few of the challenges we all had to face. We all adapted and within our communities we saw an immeasurable amount of kindness and support shown to others. This pandemic made us all realise the importance of human connection and how we all need social interaction and contact.
Since Covid-19 presented itself in Ireland, we have received many positive emails and positive feedback from our carers, clients and family members expressing gratitude towards our staff for all they do and did throughout the difficult times.
This acknowledges the care, commitment and generosity the staff have shown over the past two years.
We are very proud in RHS Home Care to have been in a position to arrange for our then employee Niamh Nolan as Roscommon County Covid-19 Community Champion. Niamh coordinated the county’s response during the pandemic helping vulnerable people to overcome challenges faced during the height of lock-down, from organising meals for people isolated, interlinking them back to services they needed, and arranging medication drop offs, to delivering surprise birthday cakes to people living alone.
Across the country this initiative mobilised 14,877 local organisations and 36,821 volunteers who came out during the difficult time. Roscommon County highlighted their community spirit, goodwill and good nature by looking after those in need.
Niamh and RHS Home Care were commended with a signed letter from President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins for all the service provided during the difficult times.
RHS Home Care and everyone within the Cooperative would like to express our thanks to all the frontline workers and office administrators for their ongoing commitment and determination in reliably providing the quality of care we are supplying to your clients each and every day.
The past two years have been a very difficult time for everyone!
Unprecedented circumstances have called for unprecedented responses and you all stepped up.
Let’s hope for brighter days ahead throughout 2022 and beyond.
