As Open Week progresses at Athlone Golf Club, large numbers of playing members and visitors continue to grace the pristinely prepared fairways and greens on the shores of Lough Ree.
Last Saturday and Sunday saw very full timesheets, while Monday’s Ladies Day and Tuesday have been well supported as well.
The golfing feast continues until the Bank Holiday Monday, June 6, when Open Week concludes with a four person team scramble. Visitors and members can enter the daily competitions via the BRS booking site or ringing the Pro Shop at 0906492073.
Club Lotto
The clock is ticking down on the Lotto Club launch which will take place on Friday, June 17, the evening of the men’s Captain’s Scramble. If you have yet to purchase a ticket, go to www.athlonegolfclub.ie and click on the lotto logo.
Inter Club Competitions
On the Inter Club front Athlone were beaten in a very close match in the Barton Shield by Galway GC while the ladies won their Minor Cup match against Roscommon GC. winning two matches at home and one away. In the Junior Foursomes match against Mountbellew, Athlone were unlucky to lose out. Congratulations to all the team members and supporters for their participation and support of our club.
Competitions
The Ladies competition on Tuesday, June 7, is sponsored by the very popular Kevin and Mary Dooley whose Dooley Florists prize is always well supported. The weekly Open Day for ladies and gents is on the following day while the weekend competition of June 11 and 12 is sponsored by Power Properties.
Condolences
The club extends its deepest sympathy to past Lady Captain Maria Elliott and to Gerard, Declan, Cathal and Yvonne on the recent passing of Joe, a former member of the club. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
