Athlone Golf Club has confirmed that the annually hosted Open Week, certain to attract a wealth of golfers from the Midlands region and beyond, will commence on Saturday, May 28 and conclude on Bank Holiday Monday, June 6.
Plumbers Competition
The Monday night Plumbers' competition got off to a very successful start with all the time slots used and a very sociable evening being had by one and all.
This has the potential to be a very successful evening so if you have just joined the club or are coming back after a break, this is an ideal opportunity to get to know members of a similar standard or renew old friendships.
Inaugural Lotto Draw
The first Lotto draw will be held in the Clubhouse on Friday, June 17 at 9pm. This is also the weekend of the Men’s Captain’s Prize competition. The Lotto draw will be preceded by the Captain’s Scramble on the Friday evening and our caterer Piotr will also have a special Captain’s menu in operation.
As you know, the club have earmarked special projects from the Lotto income to improve the experience of members and visitors. These include course improvements, clubhouse improvements, enhanced junior golf programme, IT upgrades and maintenance.

This Week's Competitions
This weekend, Athlone GC will host the usual competitions for ladies and gents on Saturday, May 21. The ladies will also host their Australian Spoons competition on Tuesday, May 24.
On Sunday, May 22, the club's Open Senior Cup and Junior Cup will take place. Kindly sponsored by Michael Moore Mercedes Benz, this promises to be a feast of golf with the cream of Midland low handicap golfers taking part.

InterClub Competitions
The second round of the Fred Perry Cup commenced on Tuesday, May 17, when Athlone played Loughrea with just two matches at home. Managed by wily campaigners John Burns and Joe Carney, this team has the potential to make an impact on this year's competition.
On Saturday, May 21, Athlone will play Ballinasloe in the All Ireland Fourball. With the All Ireland final of this competition being held in Hodson Bay at the end of September, Athlone will be hoping to have a good run this year.
On Sunday, May 22, Athlone will play Ballinasloe in the Fred Daly championship. The Ladies Active Revive Fourball team will play their second round match this Sunday against Mountbellew and following a 3/2 victory over Ballinasloe in their first round match, our ladies are quietly confident of progressing further.
