The recent visit of GAA president, Larry McCarthy, to Rosemount, marked a proud moment in the recent history of the progressive South Westmeath GAA club.
In an official capacity, the Cork native, was present to open the new gym on the grounds of Fr O’Growney Park, but the president also took ample time to embrace the prevalent community atmosphere, mingling with those present and offering words of encouragement to the young GAA stars of the future.
Looking resplendent, much to the cohesive working ethos of community members, Rosemount GAA was a hive of exuberance during the occasion, and in his address, the president noted the prominence of community spirit in matters gaelic games.
“There is simply no sporting organisation akin to the GAA and this evening is a prime example of what the GAA means to a community. There is a spirit of togetherness, a kinship and the GAA plays a prominent role in the welfare of communities such as here in Rosemount.
“The GAA was to the fore during the Covid-19 pandemic with members offering continuous support to those living in our communities during such a bleak time. This just reinforces to me that there is no amateur sporting organisation which can rival our unity of spirit,” Mr McCarthy enthused.
Rosemount GAA chairperson, Vinny Cox, expressed his gratitude to the numerous committees who had worked diligently to have the community surrounds in pristine condition for the arrival of the president.
“Here, in Rosemount, we are blessed to have a true sense of community spirit, one which has brought this occasion to a positive realisation this evening. We look forward to your future return and hopefully, it will be for an adult medal presentation towards the end of the year,” Mr Cox concluded.
