Druid Theatre Company will visit Roscommon Arts Centre this June

Druid Theatre Company recently announced a 10 venue summer tour of Billy Roche’s THE CAVALCADERS.

After opening in The Mick Lally Theatre, their home in Galway, Druid will take this 1993 classic play around the country and will be stopping off at Roscommon Arts Centre on Sunday, June 12, at 8pm.

The Cavalcaders is a comic and tender portrait of life in small town pre-Celtic Tiger Ireland and the men who lived there. Terry and his friends Josie, Rory and Ted spend their days as cobblers and their nights as The Cavalcaders, a barbershop quartet of local renown. But life has taken its toll on Terry and past betrayals cast long shadows.

Billy Roche’s classic memory play takes you on a journey back in time to the 1990s, to heartache, companionship and the redemptive power of song. Druid Ensemble member Aaron Monaghan directs an all - singing cast led by fellow Ensemble member Garrett Lombard, which also includes Amelia Crowley, Naoise Dunbar, Sean Kearns, Éilish McLaughlin and Tiernan Messitt -Greene.

Billy Roche, writer of The Cavalcaders says ‘I’m delighted that Druid have mounted a production of my play The Cavalcaders … to get to work with a powerful company like Druid is exciting to say the least, and it is all the more fitting somehow since it was Garry Hynes who commissioned the play for the Abbey Theatre in the first place, way back in 1991’.

Garry Hynes, Druid’s Artistic Director describes Billy’s play as ‘a tender portrait of Irish society on the precipice of great change. I’m excited to see how our new production will take shape…’

The Cavalcaders was commissioned for the Abbey Theatre in 1991 by Garry Hynes during her tenure as Artistic Director of the theatre and the world premiere of The Cavalcaders was produced on the Peacock stage of the Abbey Theatre in July 1993.

Tickets are €25 and are available now from Roscommon Arts Centre’s box office on 09066 25824 and from www.roscommonartscentre.ie
