The Athlone GAA ‘stars of the future’ displayed their vast potential within the surrounds of the Connaught Centre of Excellence this past weekend as the U10 boys playing squads ventured west to participate in the Mick O’Connell Cup competition.
Entering two teams, Athlone 1 contested for supremacy against Aghamore 1, Naas 1 and Ballyhaunis with great tenacity on display during the games.
Athlone 2 played Naas 2, Michael Glaveys and Aghamore 2 and following some sterling performances advanced to the semi-final of the competition where they were unfortunately defeated by competition winners, Naas 1.
With some fine individual and team performances during the course of the competition, the standout fixture was victory for Athlone 2 over Michael Glavey’s by the narrowest of margins in a highly entertaining and competitive match.
The Athlone 1 playing squad were Anthony Attendido, Ryan Gill, Cillian Butler, Lorcan McMonagle, Cillian Coughlan, Leo Galvin, Olly Nicholson, John Rizza, Ryan Williams, James McLoughlin, Cooper So, Donnacha Hughes, Fionn Clarke and Michael Union.
The Athlone 2 playing squad featured Neil Boyle, Ruairi Hayden, Tom Gunning, Lovro Batas, Sam Gunning, Paddy Kilroy, Seamus Kilroy, Damian Quinn, Eoghan Silke, Nakori Temple, Zihao Liu, Josh Forarty, and James Purtill.
