The installation of four new bus shelters serving the Monksland area has been welcomed by South Roscommon Fine Gael Councillor John Naughten.
Cllr Naughten had previously raised the need for bus shelters in the Monksland and Bealnamulla areas with Roscommon County Council, pointing out they are “particularly important when people may be waiting for a bus in wet weather.”
Two new shelters have now been installed at bus stops on the Old Tuam Road with a further two shelters on the New Tuam Road.
“This was an issue I raised over 12 months ago following contact from passengers using the bus service in the Monksland and Bealnamullia area who were standing in the rain, including elderly people and children.
“I would like to compliment area engineer, Paul Browne, for pursuing this matter with the National Transport Authority and successfully securing the new bus shelters. There are more shelters needed in the area and I will continue to pursue the installation of new shelters where feasible at other bus stops in the area,” Cllr Naughten concluded.
