Jewels galore to go ‘under the hammer’ in forthcoming auction

Well-known antiques auctioneers, Matthews of Kells, will conduct an interesting clearance auction of antique and modern jewellery, gold, silver and collectables this Tuesday evening, March 29, in their auction room at 5pm.

Over 650 lots are to be placed under the hammer, with many styles and eras represented. Most of the lots are unredeemed pawnbrokers’ pledges or sold under executor and solicitor instructions.

“People see the sense of owning gold and higher value smaller objects. What with all the goings on in the world these days they are an easily stored guaranteed hedge against inflation.

“Unlike governments, who are pushing more and more money into the market, downgrading its value through inflation, they can’t print silver and gold, God’s money,” Mr Matthews said.

The lots in the auction are on public view in Kells this Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 11am to 5pm, along with viewing on the auction day itself until 5pm.

The sale commences online at 5.30pm sharp via the auctioneer’s website, www.matthewsauctionrooms.com
