An Grianán National School is a seven mainstream teacher primary school with 177 pupils currently on the roll.
Situated in the picturesque village of Mount Temple, a few minutes from the Old Rail Trail, a five minute drive from Moate and just 15 minutes from Athlone, An Grianán National School has a long history of excellent academic achievement.
Long after they have graduated from An Grianán NS, our past pupils continue to shine academically with a remarkable standard of spoken Irish, mathematical ability and a great grasp of, and enthusiasm for, the core curriculum subjects.
In recent years the curriculum at An Grianán has been broadened to include new innovations in STEM, ICT, mindfulness, yoga and well-being, as well as fully adopting the Aistear programme for early infant education.
The staff at An Grianán is continually engaging in the latest CPD to ensure the delivery of the most relevant and up to date programmes for pupils.
An Grianán also provides before and after school care, from 8.15am until 6pm from Monday to Friday.
The school grounds are expansive, containing a football pitch, a soccer court, a basketball court, as well as a variety of yards and play spaces which are constantly being improved.
The An Grianán Parents Association is currently very active in fundraising for and co-ordinating an outdoor play improvement plan. The latest addition to the plan has been a transverse climbing wall installed by Smallwalls. Surrounded by a woodland of ancient native trees, pupils delight in learning from the natural environment which surrounds our school. An award winning school garden which is also constantly evolving.
Pupils participate in an array of extra-curricular activities encompassing the many aspects of children’s interests and hobbies. An Grianán takes immense pride in achieving success with debating and quiz teams, chess champions, super athletes, award winning swimmers and gymnasts, boys’ and girls’ football, soccer and basketball teams, Irish dancers, musicians and expressive visual and dramatic artists.
Diversity and inclusion is very much valued at An Grianán National School. With four special education teachers and seven SNAs, all children enjoy every aspect of school life.
Welcoming enrolments at all class levels, An Grianán National School will host an open day on Saturday, April 2, from 10am-12pm, where staff members will be happy to show you around and answer any questions which you may have.
