As the All County Football League approaches the midway point of the campaign, local senior football clubs have experienced mixed results as thoughts turn towards achieving early season goals prior to the start of championship season.
Garrycastle, under the management of former Longford senior football supremo, Denis Connerton, were victorious this past weekend, defeating Mullingar Shamrocks to secure a second success in the club’s Division 1 campaign.
The win places Garrycastle in third position on the division table with the top two teams destined for final berths come the conclusion of the league’s round robin fixtures phase.
Castledaly had a spirited performance to achieve a notable victory over reigning county senior football champions St Lomans in this round of fixtures. This, their second game of the league season, will enhance confidence as the players and management strive to attain momentum ahead of their intermediate championship campaign.
Rosemount remain pointless after three league games played, thr club’s latest defeat arriving on St Patrick’s Day when The Downs, emerged with a four point victory following a wind impacted game in Fr O’Growney Park.
Declan Mullen was once again to the scoring fore for Rosemount but his exploits were not enough to earn success over The Downs who are primely positioned on the division table.
In Division 2, Athlone remain rooted to the bottom of the league table following a draw with Ballymore on Thursday morning last.
Athlone, who parted company with manager, Liam McHale, in recent times, were in the scoreboard ascendancy for the majority of this contest but Ballymore rallied as the game reached its conclusion to secure a draw.
Moate All Whites are proudly perched on top of the Division 2 table following their recent four point victory over neighbours, Caulry. Gaining a modicum of revenge for their senior championship loss to the Mount Temple/Baylin club in 2021, the progressive All Whites have achieved a 100 percent win rate from their opening three fixtures to date.
Caulry have won one and lost two of their games played to date as they hover just above the relegation zone.
Despite a heavy loss to Multyfarnham this past weekend, Tubberclair are placed second in Division 2 with four games played.
With each club to play nine league games, the top two teams in each division will contest a final fixture while the bottom two clubs will be relegated, so plenty for which to still play as the relevant management teams strive to achieve a winning formula prior to the start of championship season in mid-summer.
