A substantial financial investment by DuPont Water Solutions in their OxyMem production facility in Athlone will have a transformative impact for the company as it embraces new technologies to improve wastewater treatment product design in a continuously evolving market.
The significant investment is a major boost for the company’s production facility in Moydrum Business Park as the Midlands region emerges from a two year pandemic during which much employment uncertainty was prevalent.
A global leader in water and wastewater treatment technologies, Dupont acquired OxyMem in 2019, expanding its extensive portfolio of industry-leading water solutions that help produce, purify, and extract some of the world’s most commercially important products.
The investment in facilities and future upskilling of employees at the Athlone site will help meet the increasing global demand for enhanced wastewater treatment product designs.
Welcoming the news which was announced on Tuesday morning, Athlone Deputy Mayor, noted that investment by DuPont Water Solutions is a positive sign for the Midlands region following two years of employment uncertainty in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I am delighted that DuPont has chosen to substantially invest in its Athlone location. Following a two year period of economic uncertainty, nationally and internationally, this is a significant boost for Athlone and the Midlands region.
“Good news stories are not in prevalent supply at the moment which makes this announcement by DuPont all the more special. I am delighted that the Government and the IDA are prioritising support for sectors where highly skilled jobs can be created and doing so on a regional basis makes perfect sense.
“DuPont is a world class company and this investment copper fastens a commitment to Athlone, ensuring that the company has a long term future here in our town.
“This investment is a very positive statement of intent by the company. DuPont recognises the strong pipe-line of educated talent here in Athlone, thanks in no small way to our local University.
“Athlone is unquestionably the business capital of the Midlands, the business driver of the region. Progressive, high potential companies and organisations need talent and Athlone has proven to be a great place to locate for this reason. Just as important as talent is a quality of life - and Athlone boasts services, recreation, access and transportation in abundance.
“Corporations need and want their employees to be happy, this is a crucial factor when locations are chosen by top companies. Time and again, Athlone is seen as a great place to locate and it is no surprise that our town was recently recognised by the Financial Times as one of Europe’s top small cities for future economic growth, development and opportunity,” Cllr O’Rourke asserted.
Cllr O’Rourke’s thoughts were echoed by Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, Cllr Frankie Keena, who noted that such a substantial financial investment in OxyMem would progress Athlone’s rapid trajectory towards becoming a regional growth centre.
“This is a great news story for OxyMem and indeed for the numerous employees within who will be offered future upskilling opportunities and such a significant financial investment in this progressive company feeds into Athlone’s positive rapid trajectory towards becoming a regional growth centre.
“IDA Ireland’s continued success of winning investments in regional locations such as Athlone is commendable and I would like to sincerely thank them for all their work.
“Finally, I wish DuPont and the OxyMem team every success with its operations in Athlone which I am confident will continue to grow from strength to strength,” Cllr Keena remarked.
Local Fianna Fáil Minister of State, Deputy Robert Troy, visited the OxyMem production facility upon the investment announcement and noted a positive future for the progressive company.
“As we look to a post-pandemic recovery, ensuring balanced regional enterprise development is key and the announcement today of DuPont’s multimillion-euro investment at their site in Athlone, Ireland is indicative of their continued success in Athlone, and indeed a testament to the Midlands region as a great place to do business.
“This investment will have a transformative impact for the site and the staff, who will all benefit from upskilling. I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit the facility and see first-hand the excellent work being undertaken there. I wish the team the very best in this new chapter,” Deputy Troy commented.
