Sports Capital funding will aid Buccaneer’s plans to develop state-of-the-art 4G pitch at Dubarry Park

The recent allocation of sports capital funding will enable Buccaneers RFC plan for the playing future and develop a 4G pitch at Dubarry Park.

Inclement weather in recent years has highlighted the need for such a facility development at Buccaneers RFC especially with the mushrooming number of underage players now participating in rugby at the progressive Midlands club, the provision of a 4G pitch further enhancing the already impressive facilities at Dubarry Park.

Buccaneers RFC were recently awarded Sports Capital Funding of €96,600 towards this much needed 4G pitch and the club has accumulated funding of approximately €160,000 which has been ring-fenced for this project.

A 4G pitch would be massively beneficial to the over 25 teams that Buccaneers RFC now field regularly and would be particularly beneficial to facilitate training and matches for the club’s youths and minis squads.

Connacht Rugby and local schools and colleges including TUS Athlone, Marist College, Athlone Community College and Colaiste Chiarain are also regular users of the Athlone venue that hosted Ireland U20 fixtures for a decade.

The club is holding a special meeting in the function room at The Bounty on Wednesday next, March 9, at 8 pm to discuss this project.

All are welcome to attend especially parents of our underage players who are the future of the club. Please make a note of the date and come along.
