Local Gardai have appealed for the public’s assistance following a robbery which took place in the heart of Athlone on Friday evening last.
Speaking to the Athlone Advertiser on Tuesday afternoon, Sergeant Andrew Haran, confirmed that the incident took place in The Crescent store at approximately 6pm on the evening in question.
“At approximately 6pm on Friday evening last, a masked man entered The Crescent Shop on the Ballymahon Road, threatening the staff and demanding money.
“The male, believed to be armed with a hammer, then fled the scene with approximately €300.
“Following an examination of CCTV footage, it is believed that the cuplrit was wearing a mask, two tone hoodie and dark coloured trousers.
“I would appeal to members of the local public who were in the vicinity at the time of the incident to come forward with any information they may have.,” Sergeant Haran asserted.
Meanwhile, two persons were arrested and charged under Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act in the vicinity of Willow Park/old Dublin Road on Monday.
“Two persons were arrested and charged with possession and intent to supply cocaine. They will appear in court on March 9,” Sergeant Haran stated.
