An initiative to pilot a library of toys in Athlone received full support from elected representatives and the council executive at the most recent sitting of Athlone-Moate Municipal District.
Raising the motion, Green Party Councillor, Louise Heavin, noted the beneficial attributes of such a scheme which is intended to be located within Athlone civic centre.
“I do believe that there is sufficient space for such a toy library in our civic centre and I am delighted with the positive response received in this regard from the council executive.
“With the easing of public health restrictions such an initiative can now be realised and hopefully, it will prove to be as successful as a similar toy library which has been launched in Carrickmacross.
“The toy library will enable those within our community to borrow quality and sustainable toys and will also promote a more environmentally friendly approach in such a situation,” Cllr Heavin asserted.
The motion was afforded full support from her fellow Councillors, Cllr Paul Hogan noting that the introduction of the toy library initiative would enable relevant skillset development for children.
“It is great to hear such a positive response for this motion which will undoubtedly benefit the local community and I hope to see this initiative come to fruition promptly,” Cllr Hogan stated.
