Two personal challenges undertaken to raise funds for Cancer Care West were achieved by Tommy Devery of Joe Devery Car Dismantlers, Ballykeeran, Athlone.
Tommy completed both challenges - a marathon and a 4x4x48 (4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours ) - in memory of his late father, Joe, who passed away due to cancer in January 2021.
Speaking upon the rewarding completion of both challenges, Tommy stated that €2600 had been raised for Cancer Care West.
“The funds raised for this worthy cause will help to provide accommodation to individuals going through cancer treatment and support for their families.
“On behalf of my family, thank you to all those who contributed to the fundraiser by donating, sharing the gofundme and sending kind messages. This cause hits close to home for our family and many other families who endure a cancer diagnosis.
“This time last year was difficult and I needed something to focus on which would help me with my mental health - a goal. So I aimed my attention towards an initiative which I thought would be positive and pro-social, to raise funds in aid of @cancer_care_west.
“This money was raised with the help of my brother through cash donations in the scrap yard and a gofundme page where I completed @davidgoggins 4x4x48 and a marathon.
“Perspective is important. As I have said, you can control how you react to a situation and sometimes it is all you can do. Try your best (as hard as it may be ) to pick a positive reaction, or at the very least, one which does no harm,” Tommy asserted.
