Carty achieves personal scoring accolade despite Connacht Champions cup loss

Despite recent defeat to Leicester Tigers in the Heineken Champions Cup, Athlone native and focal player, Jack Carty, achieved a personal milestone during the contest when the out half scored a try, conversion, penalty and drop goal, the first occasion on which such a feat as been achieved by Connacht rugby in the professional era.

Carty’s drop goal, the last kick in a pulsating affair, earned Connacht a crucial bonus point and positions the provincial team fourth in Pool B after two fixtures.

Following on from an influential display in the opening pool contest against Stade Francais Paris, Carty played a pivotal role for Connacht with his form certainly worthy of attention from Ireland manager, Andy Farrell, as thoughts turn towards the Six Nations due to kick off in February.

A return to the Sportsground awaits Carty and his playing colleagues for the third Heineken Champions Cup Pool B fixture on January 15, when Leicester Tigers once again provide the opposition.
