Chambers Ireland broadly welcomes restoration of Covid business supports

Chambers Ireland, the voice of business throughout Ireland, has welcomed the recent announcement from Ministers Donohoe and McGrath on the restoration of Covid supports for qualifying businesses.

"This announcement is important for many of our members across the country who are finding their businesses constrained by renewed public health measures.

"While we recognise the short-term significance of these supports, we urge Government to engage in scenario planning over longer-term timeframes.

"This is vital to maintaining confidence within the business community. By giving businesses assurance regarding what the government responses will be this will allow those operating within affected sectors to develop contingency plans for those scenarios.

"The Chambers network continues to call on government to introduce multiple, realistic scenario contingency planning. Businesses need to have foresight of what the Government responses will be should our Covid-19 levels fail to improve, and also what to expect if they disimprove.

"The Government needs to provide a detailed path forward for 2022 so that businesses can plan for the months ahead. We are, yet again, highlighting the challenge that businesses face in trying to operate in an environment where government recommendations, and public health advice, are undergoing amendments on an ad-hoc, reactive basis," Chambers Ireland Chief Executive Ian Talbot, said.
