There was Westmeath county championship success for the minor ladies footballers of both Athlone and Garrycastle in recent times.
Garrycastle were to the fore in the Division 2 final, achieving silverware following the conclusion of a high scoring final in which they defeated Killucan by nine points (6-13 to 5-7 ).
Meanwhile, in the Division 5 showpiece fixture, Athlone defeated a gallant Cill Óige team in a closely contested final.
Both clubs had played out a draw in the group phase of the competition and Saturday afternoon’s game, played in Castledaly, proved equally as close, with Athlone emerging victorious by a two point margin (2-9 to 2-7 ).
