The escalating popularity of the Athlone Christmas Market gives cause for much positivity with regards to the collaborative festive initiative in the years to come, Westmeath County Council Cathaoirleach, Cllr Frankie Keena, stated this week.
With a prevalent festive atmosphere embracing the Civic Square in the heart of Athlone this past two weekends, Cllr Keena expressed his gratitude to all those who attended the Christmas Market over the duration.
"The increasing popularity of our annual Christmas Market gives great cause for initiative optimism going forward and this year our timber market cabins were completely booked out by local traders selling bargain gifts for the festive season.
"It was great to see the support afforded to these traders and special thanks is attributed to all those who shopped local over the two weekends of the Christmas Market. Our timber market cabins are attractive and of a very high spec which complements the excellent products that were on sale," Cllr Keena acknowledged.
Athlone Chamber of Commerce CEO, Gerry McInerney, noted that the success of the Christmas Market has created immense interest from local traders to avail of a timber cabin in 2022.
"As it stands we now have a local traders waiting list for the Christmas Market in 2022. We now have identified the correct ingredient for a successful market and the Chamber is fully supportive of local traders selling local produce," Mr McInerney remarked.
Cllr Keena also expressed his gratitude to Westmeath County Council for its financial support and Spectrum Signs for sponsoring the relevant signage.
