Tubberclair GAA reflect upon progressive year on the local sporting fields

Similar to 2020, this past calendar year has been, at times, a very difficult year, although during the various campaigns it was great to see supporters back at games again.

Obviously, Tubberclair GAA enjoyed a few fantastic days on the pitch when playing resumed, with the first team returning to the intermediate championship ranks and were very competitive, ultimately very unlucky not to reach the knockout stages.

The club expresses gratitude to Martin McCabe and his team for all their efforts this year. Also, thanks is afforded to Gary Connaughton and the management team of the Tubberclair second team and their toil during the playing season.

Tubberclair GAA underage teams probably enjoyed one of the most successful years in the club’s recent history, competing in Division 1 at both Under 15 and Under 17 level.

The Under 17s were heroic all year long and ultimately bowed out in the semi-final against St Lomans, in their home pitch, while the Under 13s annexed the Division 2 shield final in September.

The Under 15s had an unbelievable campaign and won the Division 1 championship, beating Mullingar Shamrocks in September and they also won the 2020 Division 2 title in June.

This was a historic week for the club and everyone involved in underage over the past decade or more, and an endorsement of all the work and meticulous coaching, and nurturing of talent, in that time.

Again, this work bore fruit at county level, with Eoghan McCabe involved with the Westmeath Under 20s, and Robbie Byrne, Joseph Martin, Kevin Claffey, featuring on the Westmeath Minor panel in 2021.

The playing progression of Goldsmith Girls LGFA must also be recognised and their recent Division 1 minor championship success is a reflection of the dedication shown on the training field during the season.

This work at underage continues unabated with much appreciation due to all those within the community who give of their time in this regard.

To quote Teddy Kennedy, 'the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die'.
