Speaking this week, Athlone Deputy Mayor, Cllr Aengus O’Rourke, afforded festive wishes to those who continue to have a positive impact within the local community, most notably all personnel working on the frontline as the pandemic impacts.
“I would like to thank the staff and executive, the media and of course the members of this District for all the hard work during this, yet another extraordinary year and I hope it’s the last time I say that!
“I would like to wish the staff, the executive, the media and you the members a very happy Christmas and a prosperous, safe and healthy New Year.
“Also, to all those who are on overseas duties working on behalf of our country, to you and your families, thank you for your service and on behalf of all of all Athlone-Moate Municipal District members, I would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas.
“To all those who work over the Christmas and holiday period in particular to keep essential services going, all our emergency services and indeed our own outdoor staff who I have no doubt will be gritting roads and responding to any issues that may arise over the holiday period.
“But in particular thank you to those working on the frontline who are still working hard to protect us all. In our hospitals, nursing homes and residential centres we very much appreciate what you do.
“Finally, I would also like to say a special thanks this year to the many volunteers out there around the entire District who give so much of their time and energy to their community.
“There are many examples of those who for example, those who coach children at sports, pick litter, deliver dinners, sit on parish committees, raise money for good causes and so on, the list is endless. This District is a better place for the work that you do,” Cllr O’Rourke enthused.
