Fregoli Theatre Company to perform ‘Cross Street’ at Roscommon Arts Centre

Fregoli Theatre Company in association with Roscommon Arts Centre, present 'Cross Street' by Jarlath Tivan, at the popular venue from Thursday, November 25 to Saturday, November 27.

Enid is searching for a new home. She finds a place on Cross Street. A place of routine. A place populated by some pretty serious creatures of habit. Enid’s arrival threatens to disrupt well-worn grooves. A house meeting is called to re-establish order, but this stormy night has other things planned!

'Cross Street' is an insightful new play from Fregoli Theatre Company which explores the meaning of home, layering drama with hints of horror and Fregoli’s trademark heart and humour to create a moving piece of theatre.

Written by Jarlath Tivnan (Pleasure Ground/ You Could Be Us ) 'Cross Street' has been developed with Fregoli Theatre Company as part of their residency at the Roscommon Arts Centre, funded by The Arts Council of Ireland. Directed by Eimear Finan, the cast includes Jarlath Tivnan, Delia Keane, Paige Leavy and Peter Shine.

Founded in 2007 Fregoli is a Galway based company that aims to produce and perform energetic and stimulating work that appeals to a large cross section of the public. Focussing primarily on new and original work, the company takes its name from Leopold Fregoli the world’s most famous impersonator and an element of his character changing style is evident in their work.

Fregoli have had twenty-eight productions of both original and established work including three digital projects in 2020; have toured both nationally and internationally, performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

In 2015 they were the first recipients of the Michael Diskin Arts Bursary with the Town Hall Theatre Galway, and produced 'Pleasure Ground' the debut play by company member and Roscommon native Jarlath Tivnan, which went on to tour nationally.

In 2017 they celebrated their tenth birthday with an original production 'You Could Be Us' by Jarlath Tivnan, staged in the Town Hall and Smock Alley Theatre and produced five new shorts for performance for the Cúirt Festival, as part of their Fruition project.

'The Streets are Ours' by new writer Robert Higgins was developed from one of these shorts and premiered at the Galway Theatre Festival in May 2018.

In 2019 the company debuted 'The Fregoli Heart Project' at Cúirt, a production devised from an open call to the public for stories about love in all its forms. It was featured on the Ray Darcy Radio show RTE Radio 1 and had a cast of twenty including a group of young dancers from Direct Provision in Galway and members of the Bohermore Youth Drama Group.

The company have been in residence at Roscommon Arts Centre for 2020/21. Supported by the Arts Council, Creative Ireland and Roscommon Arts Centre, the residency has focussed around the theme of 'Finding Home'.

As part of this residency, the company engaged with members of the EROC Centre in Ballaghaderreen; produced two digital projects 'I Want You to Know Me', which explored domestic violence from a child’s perspective and fundraised for Safe Ireland, and 'Inside You Stay' which explored themes of mental health.
