Moate Golf Club announce new format for annual Winter League competition

The Seery’s Cash and Carry Winter League, annually hosted at Moate Golf Club, will have a new format for 2022.

The five man team playing six qualifying rounds has been replaced with an initial singles qualifying stage and then three person teams will be formed from the qualifiers for the final.

The main difference initially is that as many 13 hole rounds can be played (€5 for first round and €3 afterwards ) and your best five rounds count for your score. The qualifying stage started on Monday of this week.

The top 60 players will be divided into three handicap groups and randomly formed into 20 teams for the play off over 18 holes.

First prize will be provided by the club in the form of three x Ping 3400 drivers with long time sponsor Seery’s Cash and Carry generously providing the second and third prizes.

Future Competitions

It’s 13 hole competitions all the way now as the winter season arrives. Week five of the Men’s Club 13 hole turkey competition runs until Sunday, November 7. Category winners will of course bag a turkey voucher but to spread the prizes around you will be on (-2 ) next time out.

Golfer of the Year 2021

Eamon Coughlan emerged the clear winner for 2021 with 408 points and although Rory Minagh threatened for a while, he finished second on 343.5 points.

Tommy Digan made a late surge to take third on 319 points. Val Keogh on 278 points and Paddy Coyne on 273pointts complete the final top five positions.

In total, 220 players earned ‘Golfer of the Year’ points.

Course Care

Now that the course is softening up as the winter months become imminent, it is more important than ever that all golfers take responsibility for repairing pitch marks.

Each player should have a divot repairer with them. In addition, golfers must look after all the divots and as bags of seed/sand mix are provided at the first tee box there really is no excuse for you not to take one.

Car Park Painting Fundraiser

If you don’t fancy walking from the bottom of the car park for 2022 why not enter the club’s fundraising raffle.

Moate Golf Club will have two spaces reserved for the winners (beside the trustee spots ) for the entirety of next year with all funds raised will go towards properly marking out the full car park in due course.

With both the Par 3 restaurant and the course becoming ever more popular, the club needs to maximize the usage of all the space currently available.

Tickets are now available in the shop @ €5 each or three for €10.
