Council Cathaoirleach implores support for seriously injured local fireman

Westmeath County Council Cathaoirleach, Cllr Frankie Keena, has called on the public to give of their support to local fireman, Patrick Berry, who suffered serious injuries during the recent fire in Mount Temple which resulted in the ruination of the Grennan family home.

"Unfortunately one of our brave local firemen, Patrick Berry, sustained serious injuries at a recent fire in the Mount Temple area when a blocked wall fell on him. His injuries, to name a few, include a breakage to his ankle, fibula and tibia, ribs, eleven vertebrae in his back, collar bone plus a concussion," Cllr Keena said.

"While these injuries, among others, will take a long time to heal and hopefully it will be a full recovery for Patrick, I am very conscious that Patrick’s home in Assumption Road needs to be urgently adapted to suit his needs when he leaves hospital.

"Therefore, I hope people can support the Patrick Berry Go Fund Me page where every euro counts and will be very much appreciated by Patrick, his partner Nicky and their three young children.

"I am so proud of our fire personnel who daily put their lives at risk to help communities. They are all so brave and I thank them for their valued work.

"I am also thinking of all Patrick’s colleagues in the Fire Department who are really shocked and upset that such a serious accident could have happened to one of their own," Cllr Keena concluded.
