Local Fine Gael Councillor criticises start of recent Castlestar development works

Local Fine Gael Councillor, John Dolan, has criticised the commencement of works for the Castlestar development in the last week.

“I received numerous calls in recent times to inform me that an excavator was clearing the narrow path at the rear of the Church Hills estate. I immediately contacted the Council as this, in my view, is not the entrance to be used for this particular development as it is narrow and located to the rear of two estates.

“I understand that there is no agreement with the Council as regards a work plan and this developer should not have started any works until such has been agreed. I also believe that this entrance is not suitable and there is an abundance of space where the main entrance will be located and under relevant planning has been granted for use.

“I met a group of the residents on Friday evening and they are furious over this behaviour by the contractor. I am fully supportive of their stance and I will continue to push the Council executive to ensure that this project can proceed with a proper, fully agreed work plan, that minimizes the impact on those residents who have to live beside this development.

“I do hope that lessons have been learned by the developer and the Council in this regard and I would encourage engagement with the residents of Church Hills in the future,” Cllr Dolan asserted.
